SumoScout is an independent magazine. Our credibility is the only asset that matters, so we publish our methodology in full.
1. How we choose what to review
We review AppSumo deals that meet at least one of three criteria: high search demand, reader requests, or genuine novelty in their category. We do not review tools simply because a vendor offers us a code.
2. How we test
- 21-day minimum: Every reviewed tool is used daily for at least three weeks on real client or personal projects.
- Fresh accounts: We sign up like a normal customer — no special demo environments.
- Edge cases: We deliberately stress-test integrations, exports, mobile, and offline behaviour.
- Multiple reviewers: Major reviews are tested by at least two team members.
3. Scoring rubric
Every review scores a tool out of 10 across five axes:
- Ease of use — onboarding, UI clarity, learning curve.
- Power — feature depth versus the category leader.
- Value for money — lifetime price vs. equivalent SaaS spend.
- Performance — speed, reliability, uptime.
- Support — documentation, response time, roadmap transparency.
The final score is a weighted average, not a simple mean.
4. Fact-checking
Every claim in a review — pricing, feature counts, integrations, performance numbers — is verified at the moment of publication. Direct quotes from vendors are confirmed in writing.
5. Conflicts of interest
Reviewers may not own equity in companies they review. Affiliate relationships are disclosed on every review page and on our Disclaimer.
6. Sponsored content
Sponsored posts are clearly labelled at the top and bottom of the article and are never included in ranked review lists.
7. Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it fast. Corrections are added in a "Correction" box at the top of the article with the date and what changed. Email editorial@sumoscout.lovable.app to flag an issue.
8. Updates
Major reviews are revisited every 6–12 months or sooner if pricing or feature changes are significant. Each update notes what changed.
9. AI use
We use AI tools to assist with research, drafts, and image generation, but every published article is written, edited, and fact-checked by a human reviewer who has personally tested the product.
10. Reader feedback
We read every email and comment. Get in touch if you spot an issue or want a tool reviewed.
